Christmas Greetz from Lapland...
This weekend we did a trip to Rovaniemi, near the Arctic circle...
We started our Trip Friday evening with a train to Lapland, actually this was a 12hours train ride through the night...
We arrived 8am Saturday morning in Rovaniemi, but as you can see it was still dark...

...and cold...although it was around -10°C it felt like -20°C... ;-)

First stage at out trip, after we left our luggage to our hotel we went to Santa Park...yeah you read it right...Rovaniemi is actually the "home" of Father Christmas and here is a Santa Park & Santa Village...

Santa Park is actually a small version of disneyland, constructed into a mountain...

Santa Park is all about Father Christmas and his little helpers, so it's clear that you are on ELF CCTV... ;-)
...while entering the Santa Park you got really deep into the mountain...

One attraction at Santa Park is the magic train ride...
...and it was really terrifying...
...as you can see on the following pics...
...everyone who ever visited the "Smallworld" ride at Disneyland...this is really compareable... ;-)
Another intersting thing was the Elf-school...as the park is mainly created for Children and Americans... ;-) ... here the children learnt how to seek & hide, or how to make the magic whistle to come back to Santa Park, leave everything behind and work as a Santa little helper for the next 99 years... ;-)
You also could get a lot of sweets...and Steffi got some sugar shock... ;-)

...and we did some Gingerbread...with BOOTIE decoration...
Last highlight was the Ice-Gallery...with ice sculpures of finnish nature & animals...

As it was really cold we got stylish winter jackets... ;-)
...but you also could relax a bit...

...or taking some even cold or also warm drinks at the Ice Bar...
Next stage on our trip was a little reindeer farm...
...and we also saw some in action...
Here are some nice impressions of the Lappish landscape...

...with a lot of snow...
...and also our little "Rescue Rangers" enjoyed it a lot...
As it was snowing the whole day also streets sign have been not that easy to read...thanks to Steffi to clear some...
...by the way...Steffi took all possible winter competitions... ;-)
Next stop of our visit was Santa Claus Village...nearby the Santa Park...
...Welcome to Santa Claus Village...
...this is actually directly at the Arctic Cirle...you could directly step on it and getting a certificate for it...
...you could find some great food...I had my first Reindeer Burger...I have to say delicious...

...or for sure old-Finnish style made Salmon

...and we recognized Berlin, isn't that far away... ;-)
So...after some X-Mas shopping and Christmas card writing we went back to Rovaniemi to see the highligh in the town...
... The LORDI Square...you remember Lordi? This was the finnish Horror Metal Band who won the Grand Prix some years ago...and yes Lordi is coming from Rovaniemi...
...so you have the LORDI Square, with hand print...

So this was Saturday...on Sunday we visit the Arktikum, a museum about the arctic circle, Lappland, Sami and all finnish stuff about nature, history etc.

That's it from Rovaniemi!!!

Great blog! Loved it!
