Big Bad Bodie

Bodie is a genuine California gold mining ghost town. The city was named after William S. Bodey, who discovered gold in 1859. By 1879 Bodie boasted a population of about 10.000 and was second to none for wickedness, badmen and " the worst climate out of doors".  With 3 breweries and 65 saloons  robberies, street fights and killings became almost daily events.

After closing the mines and the several huge fires, Bodie was closed in 1942. Five percent of the buildings still remain. Since 1962 Bodie is a State Park (and consequently during Goverment Shut Downs open ;-)
