We had two nights in Lee Vining. This place has 400 inhabitants and during the summer thousands of tourists. Mono Lake is one reason for that and the direct entrance to the Yosemite park via Tioga Pass the other one.
The Mono lake became a symbol for environment protection. Since the 1940s the water was used for the water demands of Los Angeles. The Lake lost half of its volume, the water level went down (13,5 meter) and the salt concentration increased dramatically. It has now a futuristic landscape of salt rocks and former volcano islands.
Since 1994 the lake is under protection and the water level rises...
